Srinagar Police on Monday said to have detained two persons for allegedly affixing United States and Israel flags in Balhama area during night hours, describing the act as a deliberate attempt to disturb public order and provoke communal tension.
“Acting on credible inputs, including visual evidence indicating the installation of United States and Israel flags, Srinagar Police launched a prompt investigation using various techniques and ground-level verification. During the course of investigation, 6–7 suspects were identified and questioned. Sustained interrogation led to the confirmation of involvement of three individuals,” reads a statement issued by Srinagar police.
The accused have been identified as Mohsin Ali Dar, S/o Ali Mohammad, R/o Balhama; Bilal Ahmad Dar, S/o Mohammad Yousuf Dar, R/o Dar Mohalla, Balhama and Amir Ali Dar, S/o Manzoor Hussain, R/o Khazir Mohalla, Balhama.
The statement reads that two of the accused have been detained, while strenuous efforts are underway to apprehend the third.
“The act is being seen as a deliberate attempt to provoke public sentiment, disturb communal harmony, and propagate anti-social narratives. Legal action under relevant provisions of law has been initiated. Srinagar Police remains committed to maintaining Peace and Public order in the district,” the statement reads—(KNO)
