The Centre has given extension to Amit Khare, a retired IAS officer, as Adviser to Prime Minister beyond his present term ending October 12, 2023, for a period co-terminus with the term of the PM.
In an order, the Department of Personnel and Training said, “The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved extension in tenure of Amit Khare, lAS (Retd.) (JH:1985) as Adviser to Prime Minister, in the rank and scale of Secretary to Government of India on contract basis on usual terms and conditions as are applicable in the case of re-employed officers of Secretary level in Government of India, beyond 12.10.2023 for a period, co-terminus with the term of Prime Minister or until further orders, whichever is earlier.”
Khare was appointed as Adviser to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on a contract basis for two years on October 12, 2021.
Khare, a 1985-batch Jharkhand-cadre IAS officer, retired as higher education secretary. He helped shape the new National Education Policy (NEP).
Khare, who holds an MBA from IIM Ahmedabad, took charge as the higher education secretary in December 2019. He also served as I&B ministry secretary.
