In a significant blow to criminal networks operating in the region, security forces in Tripura have successfully foiled a major smuggling attempt, seizing over 2,280 kilograms of marijuana in one of the state’s largest drug busts to date. In a well-coordinated operation, Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Customs Department, intercepted the consignment in Bejoynagar, located in West Tripura. This massive haul, valued at a staggering ₹10.29 crore, represents a decisive step in the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in the region.

The operation was carried out following precise intelligence inputs, leading the authorities to seize the narcotic shipment destined for the state’s black market. The two suspects arrested during the operation are currently in custody, and the massive seizure has been handed over to law enforcement agencies for further investigation. Authorities have praised the efforts of Assam Rifles and Customs for their vigilance and commitment to keeping the state’s borders secure.

In another remarkable operation, Assam Rifles made another major breakthrough in Badarghat, West Tripura. Contrary to the expectations of discovering a drug consignment, authorities stumbled upon a cache of 1.15 kilograms of gold—14 gold bars and unfinished 24-carat ornaments—valued at ₹1.02 crore. This precious cargo was smuggled from Dubai via Bangladesh and was reportedly being routed to New Delhi after being processed in Tripura. Two individuals from West Bengal and New Delhi have been arrested in connection with this gold smuggling operation, shedding light on the complex and international nature of smuggling rings operating in the region.

These recent operations underscore the tireless efforts of Assam Rifles in combatting illicit activities. As part of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Tripura (Drug-Free Tripura) campaign, the Assam Rifles have successfully carried out 20 operations since January 2025 alone, seizing contraband worth ₹65.56 crore. The crackdown reflects the increasing commitment of security forces to dismantle smuggling networks and protect the local population from the devastating impact of drugs and illicit goods.

Thanks to enhanced surveillance, swift intelligence-sharing, and seamless coordination between Assam Rifles, the Customs Department, and local law enforcement agencies, the security forces continue to make significant strides in the war against drugs. With these significant wins, Assam Rifles remains steadfast in its mission to ensure a safer, more secure future for the people of Tripura and the wider Northeast region.

In the wake of these operations, officials have expressed confidence that the continued crackdown on drug trafficking and smuggling will help dismantle the vast networks that threaten to destabilize the region, contributing to the ongoing peace and security efforts in the state.
