In a swift and decisive action, Awantipora Police have apprehended two individuals pretending to be close to authorities and extorting money from the public.
The arrest followed a complaint lodged by Mushtaq Ahmad Dar, son of Gh Rasool Dar, a resident of Naristan, who reported that the accused were fraudulently presenting themselves as close to the police circle and demanding money under false promises.
The accused have been identified as Jaliya Parveen, daughter of Mohd Amin Rather, resident of Monghal Anantnag, and Bilal Ahmad Rah, son of Gh Ahmad Rah, resident of Chanapora Srinagar. They allegedly targeted suspects called for questioning, exploiting fear of legal action to extract payments.
Their illegal activities surfaced after multiple victims came forward, reporting coercion and threats. Acting promptly on the complaint, Police Station Tral registered FIR No. 62 of 2025 under relevant sections of the law.
Thanks to timely action by the Tral police team, both accused have been taken into custody.
Awantipora Police urge the community to remain vigilant and not fall victim to such fraudulent persons. Citizens are encouraged to report suspicious activity immediately. The police reaffirm their commitment to act firmly against anti-social elements and ensure public safety and trust.
