Making Urdu language mandatory for Naib Tehsildar examinations is snowballing into a big controversy with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) taking Government head on.
The party has decided to launch a protracted struggle in this regard with its 28 MLAs holding a protest in front of Civil Secretariat tomorrow to force the Government to revoke what it called discriminatory order which is against the interests of youth.
Party sources said all the opposition BJP MLAs will assemble in front of Civil Secretariat here tomorrow and hold a day long protest in support of the demand to force the Government to revoke the impugned order which is biased and discriminatory in nature.
Sources said the protest will be led by Opposition leader in the Assembly, Sunil Sharma and this will be the first step of the party in getting the order revoked failing which the party will intensify the agitation which will even include gherao of the Civil Secretariat Jammu in case no tangible results materialise by tomorrow evening.
Sources said the party has already submitted the memorandums to the Government regarding revocation of the decision and over last one month since the impugned order was issued by the Government no appropriate steps were taken to review the decision which generated a lot of resentment among the Jammu youth who are on roads since then as the Government order is not acceptable to them at any cost.
Sources said majority of Jammu youth aspiring to appear in the examination are not Urdu knowing and this way they will be debarred in participating in the examination. This is totally a discriminative and anti people decision reflecting the mindset of Kashmir centric leadership which BJP will not allow to impose on our youth. “We will not allow to thrust any language on people of Jammu which is not acceptable to them or with which they are not familiar,’’ sources added.
Leader of Opposition, Sunil Sharma while reiterating the party decision in this regard said that BJP will hold UT wide agitation and in the first phase all the MLAs of the party will gherao the Civil Secretariat tomorrow. “In case the Government fails to revoke the decision by tomorrow the party will intensify agitation and its activists, senior leaders and MLAs will gherao the Civil Secretariat on July 17.
He said besides, gherao of the Civil Secretariat, the party will also hold protest in different places of Jammu region.
BJP UT president, Sat Sharma while confirming party’s decision of launching a decisive battle against imposition of Urdu said besides, Civil Secretariat, protest will also be held at Akhnoor tomorrow. He said no decision will be allowed to be thrust on youth which will not be acceptable to them and which will debar them in taking part in competitive examinations. “The order issued by Government making Urdu mandatory for Naib Tehsildar examinations is totally discriminative and anti Jammu’’, he added.
“Already BJYM, our youth wing, has launched a struggle in this regard and party has fully backed them’’, Sat Sharma said.
He said in case the decision was not revoked thousands of BJP activists will participate in Secretariat gherao during next phase.
Sharma who returned from Union Capital yesterday evening to discuss the names of new office bearers and Morcha heads with Party High Command said the new team of office bearers and Morcha heads will be now finalised after the election of new national president of the Party for which the election will be held within some time.
