Bovine smuggler with six FIRs booked under PSA in Nagrota

A bovine smuggler with six FIRs registered against him has been arrested in Nagrota area of Jammu district, police said on Friday.

“Under Operation Kamdhenu, Jammu Police, led by SSP Joginder Singh, have tightened their grip on bovine smugglers. Nagrota police recently apprehended a notorious bovine smuggler and booked him under the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act (PSA),” the police said in a statement.

It is pertinent to mention here that “in 2024, four PSA cases were registered against bovine smugglers, and one PSA was booked under the PIT NDPS Act. Yesterday, two PSA warrants were executed against bovine smugglers in Sub-division Nagrota, reflecting the Jammu Police’s commitment to ensuring peace and harmony in the area,” the statement added.

The details of the PSA detenue are as follows: Zakir Hussain, son of Abdul Karim, resident of Khanpur, Tehsil Nagrota, District Jammu.

Police noted that Zakir Hussain had been “repeatedly involved in criminal and bovine smuggling activities, causing significant hurt to the sentiments of a particular community.”

Multiple FIRs have been registered against him, including FIR Nos. 200/2017 and 263/2017 under Sections 188 RPC and 3/5 PCA Act of Police Station Nagrota, FIR No. 18/2023 under Sections 188 IPC and 11 PCA Act of Police Station Jhajjar Kotli, FIR No. 141/2023 under Sections 188 IPC and 11 PCA Act of Police Station Kathua, FIR No. 163/2023 under Sections 279, 336, 188 IPC, 11 PCA Act, and Rules 50/52/54/56 of the Transport of Animals, 1978, of Police Station Rajbagh, and FIR No. 100/2024 under Sections 188 IPC and 11 PCA Act of Police Station Samba.

“The warrant against Zakir Hussain was executed by PSI Neeraj Parihar of Police Station Nagrota,” the statement read.

Police credited the “relentless efforts of SHO Nagrota and SDPO Nagrota, under the close supervision of SP Rural Jammu,” for the successful execution of this warrant. “The support from district administration in this regard has been exemplary,” they added.

The police further stated that “the general public has appreciated the proactive role of the police in taking stringent actions against bovine smugglers.”
