The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a corruption case against 10 individuals, including the former Deputy General Manager (Medical Services) and a Contractual Medical Officer of ONGC, Jorhat, along with proprietors of eight private medical shops. The case, registered on June 17, pertains to the submission of fake medical bills amounting to ₹45 lakh.
The accused public servants allegedly entered into a criminal conspiracy with the empanelled chemists and unknown persons between 2019 and 2022. They are accused of raising bogus bills using fake requisition slips for issuing medicines—without the knowledge of the intended ONGC beneficiaries or their dependents.
The CBI conducted searches at the residential premises of the accused, leading to the seizure of several incriminating documents. The agency confirmed that investigations are ongoing. (KDC)
