The cold nights have intensified in the Kashmir Valley as temperatures dropped further following recent snowfall, officials said.
The Meteorological Centre in  Srinagar has forecast dry weather across the region until January 28, with the possibility of very light rain and snow at isolated locations in  Jammu and Kashmir today, as well as between January 29 and 31.

The minimum temperature recorded during the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday at Srinagar witnessed a drop and recorded a low of -2.0°C against the 0.6°C the previous night and this was still 0.3°C above the average for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir during the period.
The ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district continued to remain the coldest place despite a marginal improvement in the night temperature that recorded at -7.5°C against the -8.5°C the previous night. This was 0.9°C above the normal for the ski resort during this period of the season.
The tourist resort Pahalgam also witnessed further dip and recorded at -5.6°C against the-4.2°C the previous night. This was 1.3°C above normal for the tourist spot of south Kashmir during the period.
Qazigund on Srinagar Jammu national highway had a low of -2.6°C against the 1.6°C against the previous night and it was 1.7°C above normal for the gateway to Kashmir during the period, the MeT office said.
The night temperature also dropped at Kokernag also in south Kashmir and recorded at a low of -1.6°C against the 1.2°C against the previous night and it was 2.1°C above the average for the picnic spot during the period.
Kupwara recorded a low of -2.2°C against the 1.2°C the previous night and this was 0.5°C above normal for the frontier district of north Kashmir during this period of the season.
