A couple was arrested with 8.5 grams of heroin and Rs 25000 in cash from Rajpura Mangotrian locality of Shakti Nagar area falling under the jurisdiction of Police Station Bakshi Nagar.
Acting on specific information, a team from Police Station Bakshi Nagar raided the residence of one Vikas Mani at Rajpura Mangotrian, Shakti Nagar and recovered the consignment along with cash, an electronic weighing machine, foil paper, and other suspected items, a police official said.
Accordingly, he said, the accused along with his wife, Tanu Mehra, were arrested and booked in case FIR number 162/2024 under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station and further investigation taken up.
The initial investigations, the police official said that the couple had been involved in the illegal drug trade for years, selling narcotics to the local youth for profit.
The accused couple is also linked to previous drug-related deaths in the area, he said.
Notably, in the past 15 days, five drug-related FIRs have been registered by the JKP in Bakshi Nagar Police Station.
