In a resolute move against the production of illicit liquor, the Excise Department, under the guidance of Excise Commissioner Shri Pankaj Kumar Sharma (JKAS), and the diligent supervision of Deputy Excise Commissioner, Executive, Kashmir, conducted extensive raids on Brick Kilns in Nowbug, Chadoora, and Budgam. These operations, carried out by Excise and Taxation Officer, Central Kashmir, in collaboration with Range Inspectors from the Central Range and other field officials, aimed to tackle complaints of illicit liquor manufacturing within the region.
Responding to recent reports of illicit liquor production, the Excise Department swung into action mere days after a previous successful recovery operation. A staggering 70 litres of Lahan, a precursor for illicit liquor, along with 6 litres of the finished contraband were seized during the meticulously planned raids. These unauthorized products were discovered in close proximity to the Brick Kilns, posing significant risks to the surrounding area due to their hazardous nature.
Displaying a steadfast commitment to public safety, the seized consignment was promptly destroyed on-site to mitigate any potential harm. Simultaneously, the Excise Department issued a stern warning to Brick Kiln proprietors, urging them to curtail any involvement in the illicit extraction of dangerous liquor. Moreover, the labourers connected to these operations were provided with essential counseling to raise awareness about the severe perils associated with the consumption of illicit liquor.
These swift and decisive actions taken by the Excise Department underline the government’s resolute stance against the production and distribution of hazardous substances. The collaborative efforts of officials and inspectors have proven that the authorities are unwavering in their commitment to safeguarding public health and maintaining the rule of law.
