JAMMU: The crime disposal rate and the quality of disposal define the crime picture of a district or a zone.

This was stated by DGP RR Swain, while chairing the monthly crime review meeting of the Jammu Zone at ZPHQ Conference Hall here.

During the meeting, the DGP emphasized the need to enhance crime disposal efficiency and build a comprehensive criminal database. He also discussed the critical aspects of improving investigation, particularly focused on NDPS and bovine smuggling cases.

The top cop, Swain stressed the finite nature of criminals and anti-social elements, urging officers to identify new individuals and motives while taking appropriate action.

He further emphasized the importance of maintaining an accurate crime and criminal record, stating that a robust database would aid investigations and analytical usage of data.

Addressing the issue of drug trade, deemed extremely dangerous, the DGP highlighted its contribution to funding terrorist activities.

He urged officers to take strict, well-planned action against those involved in the NDPS trade, advocating for a comprehensive record of drug peddlers and consumers.

The directive included creating a ‘master list’ of repeatedly offending vehicles and indexing drivers and vehicles linked to drug transportation. Strict action against bovine smugglers was also emphasized, given its association with various unlawful activities.

Vehicle owners repeatedly involved in such trade should face consequences, the DGP directed.

Officers concurred on setting clear goals to minimize the crime rate, implementing effective strategies for success. In a motivating move, the DGP announced rewards for exceptional performance in investigations, recognizing the best district and police station.

Swain encouraged officers to embrace the spirit of public service in any posting, appreciating the efforts of fellow officers contributing to the force with dedication.

The meeting was attended by ADGP Law & Order Vijay Kumar, ADGP Jammu Zone Anand Jain, Range DIGs, SSPs of Jammu Zone, SSP PCR Jammu, AIG (Training & Policy) PHQ, and DySP Complaints, PHQ.
