In yet another example of the chilling convergence between the rhetoric of the Pakistan Army and the country’s terror network, a Pakistani military spokesperson appeared to threaten India using language strikingly similar to that of designated terrorist Hafiz Saeed.

A video of Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry at an event at a Pakistani university showed him saying, “If you block our water, we will choke you”. He was apparently referring to India’s recent move to suspend the water-sharing treaty after the Pahalgam terrorist attack.

This comment mirrors that of Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Saeed, who had allegedly said, “If you stop the water, God willing, we will stop your breath, and then blood shall follow in these rivers,” according to videos shared by people on the internet, who drew similarities between the comments.

The army official attempted to engage in an online debate, which quickly escalated into a fresh controversy, with many pointing out the striking similarities.

Mariam Solaimankhil, an Afghan politician and former Member of Parliament, joined the discussion and remarked, “He seems to have copied Lashkr e Taiba’s founder Hafiz Saeed word for word “If India stops the water we will stop their breath” I guess the Pakistani military establishment shares a script with recognised terrorists”.

India Today could not independently verify the timing of Hafiz Saeed’s video, which appears to be from an earlier public address.

India has recently questioned the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan following the April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attacks. This move is part of a series of punitive measures taken by New Delhi against Islamabad, accusing it of supporting cross-border terrorism. India Today
