In response to public concerns raised during a recent hearing (Block Divas), the District Development Commissioner Kupwara Ayushi Sudan, has issued an urgent order for the removal of illegal drainages and garbage from water bodies in Lolab Valley. The move comes amid a severe water scarcity and drought-like situation in the region.
According to an order in this regard, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Lolab has been tasked with ensuring immediate action.
A dedicated committee will be formed to conduct physical inspections of key water bodies, including Sarbands, Dehgam Khul, Springs, and other Khuls and Nallahs, which are crucial sources of irrigation and drinking water, reads the order.
The administration has directed the committee to organize a massive cleanliness drive, collaborating with local volunteers, the Rural Development Department (RDD), Irrigation & Flood Control (I&FC) officials, and environmental NGOs.
