Srinagar, May 15: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh arrived in Srinagar on Thursday for a day-long visit aimed at reviewing the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and interacting with frontline troops stationed in the region.

According to defence sources, Singh will meet senior Army officials and security agency heads to assess the prevailing security environment, especially in the backdrop of recent Indo-Pak border tensions and renewed attempts of infiltration along the Line of Control (LoC).

During the visit, Singh is expected to chair high-level meetings involving top commanders of the Northern Command, senior officials of the Jammu and Kashmir administration, and intelligence agencies. Discussions are likely to centre on border security, counter-militancy operations in South and North Kashmir, and development of infrastructure in forward areas.

The Defence Minister will also address soldiers deployed in high-altitude and sensitive zones, commending their service and boosting morale.

“This visit underscores the Centre’s commitment to national security and the welfare of our armed forces. The Defence Minister’s interaction with the troops sends a strong message of solidarity and recognition,” an official told KNT.

Rajnath Singh’s visit is also significant ahead of the upcoming Amarnath Yatra and the ongoing efforts to stabilise internal security across the Valley. Additional security reviews may be undertaken with a focus on coordination between armed forces and the local administration.

Officials said the Defence Minister may also review the progress on strategic projects, including the construction of bunkers and roads in border belts that serve as lifelines for civilian and defence movement.
