New Delhi : India produced a dominant all-round performance to defeat New Zealand by 96 runs in the final and clinch the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title.
Put in to bat, India delivered a remarkable batting display, posting a massive total of 255/5 in the allotted overs — the highest total ever recorded in an ICC Men’s T20 World Cup final.
Sanju Samson led the charge with a brilliant knock of 89 runs, while Abhishek Sharma (52) and Ishan Kishan (54) also made vital contributions to power India to the imposing total.
Samson and Abhishek laid a solid foundation with a blistering 98-run opening partnership in just over seven overs, putting the New Zealand bowlers under immense pressure from the outset.
Although James Neesham briefly slowed India’s momentum by claiming three quick wickets in the middle overs, Shivam Dube provided a strong finish to ensure India crossed the 250-run mark.
In reply, New Zealand’s chase never gained momentum as the side lost early wickets, with Finn Allen and Glenn Phillips falling cheaply.
India’s bowlers maintained tight control throughout the innings, with Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel delivering superb spells to wrap up the match and seal a comfortable victory for the Men in Blue.
