Divisional Commissioner Kashmir VK Bidhuri Saturday said that development and heritage remain the core focus of the valley’s growth strategy, with the administration equally prioritizing both modern infrastructure and the preservation of Kashmir’s rich cultural identity.

Speaking to media persons, Bidhuri highlighted Kashmir’s proud legacy of art, culture, and crafts, which continue to draw national and international attention. “If someone is not proud of his roots, then he is not good. It is very important to remain connected to our heritage, and we are fully involved in folk arts and crafts,” he said while referring to the North Zone Centre Program, which recently concluded in the region.

Turning to preparations for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Yatra, Bidhuri informed that the pilgrimage will begin on July 3 and conclude on August 9 this year. “All preparations are underway to ensure a smooth and safe pilgrimage. This time, the railway will also play an important supporting role, and arrangements are being made accordingly,” he said.

He further stated that the administration, under the directions of the Deputy Commissioners, is also preparing for other significant religious occasions such as Muharram, and various local festivals. Special focus is being given to Gurudwaras and other important sites.

On the development front, Bidhuri assured that several infrastructure projects are on track. Responding to a query regarding the completion of flyovers and bridges, he mentioned that “three bridges have already been completed, while work on the Sanat Nagar bridge is still ongoing.”

Regarding concerns about engineering quality, Bidhuri clarified that the National Highways Authority (NHA) and the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department are closely monitoring all projects. “No glaring example of fault has surfaced so far, but if any issue comes to light, it will be addressed promptly,” he assured.

On the safety of school children, the Divisional Commissioner said the administration is working on installing CCTV cameras in school buses. “A timeline has already been set, and both the Transport Department and the Education Department are jointly working to ensure this is implemented at the earliest,” Bidhuri added.
