In a significant move to promote legal awareness, District Administration Kupwara in collaboration with the Home Department launched a comprehensive awareness campaign across the Kupwara district to inform and educate the public about the newly introduced legislations: the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023.
The awareness programmes were held in different blocks of district Kupwara aimed at ensuring that the citizens are well-informed about their rights and responsibilities under these new laws.
The main event was held at Town Hall Kupwara which witnessed the participation of officers from both civil and police department. Dy. SP Hq Kupwara, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Education Officer, Assistant Commissioner Development, Tehsildar Kupwara and other Officers from line departments, besides, large number of stakeholders including Numberdars, Chowkidars, Anganwari Workers/Helpers, Heads of Schools, SHGs and general public were present in awareness programme.
On the occasion, the Resource Person and officers from District Administration highlighted the importance and provisions of the new legislations including Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023. The officials emphasized the importance of these laws in enhancing public safety, improving the justice delivery system, and adapting to evolving technological advancements.
Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 focuses on the safety and security of Indian citizens, outlining measures to protect individuals from various crimes, including cybercrimes and domestic violence. The law also provides guidelines for safeguarding vulnerable populations such as women, children, and senior citizens.
The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 addresses reforms in the judicial system, streamlining procedures for more efficient and transparent delivery of justice. Key provisions aim to reduce delays in trials, ensure fair hearings, and promote the use of modern technology to speed up the judicial process.
Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023 modernizes the evidence laws, incorporating provisions for the digital age, ensuring the admissibility of electronic evidence, and making it easier to present and verify digital records in court.
Similarly, awareness programme on the three newly enacted criminal laws was organized at Town Hall, Handwara, with the participation of senior law enforcement officials and administrative officers.
The programme was aimed at educating the public, legal practitioners, and government officials about the key provisions and implications of the newly introduced criminal laws. Dy. SP DAR, Ab Majid, SHO Handwara, and Naib Tehsildars were present at the event, sharing valuable insights on the legal reforms and their enforcement.
During the session, speakers emphasized the significance of the new laws in strengthening the justice system and ensuring a more effective legal process. They discussed the major amendments, procedural changes, and their impact on law enforcement and the judicial system. Participants were encouraged to familiarize themselves with these changes to ensure better compliance and understanding.
The awareness programme witnessed active engagement from attendees, with interactive discussions and clarifications provided on various aspects of the new legal provisions. Such initiatives are crucial in keeping the public informed and enhancing coordination between law enforcement agencies and the community.
Awareness programmes about new criminal laws were also held in Sogam, Kralpora, Tanghdar and Langate.
The awareness program will continue over the coming weeks and will be held across all block headquarters and Government Degree Colleges in the district, with more focused sessions for specific communities, law enforcement personnel, and local leaders to ensure the widespread dissemination of knowledge about the new laws.
