Ganderbal, Jan 20: The Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) Srinagar, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Government of India, successfully concluded a two-day District Level Sports Tournament at Kitchpara Kangan Sports Ground, Ganderbal. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from various youth clubs across the district.
The tournament featured multiple sports events, including Volleyball, 100-meter race, Shot Put, Kho-Kho, Skipping, and Badminton, providing a platform for young athletes to showcase their talent and competitive spirit.
Amarjit Singh, Block Development Officer (BDO) Kangan, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, alongside Former Sarpanch Shabir Ahmad Mir, Mehraj Malik, and Rahi Riyaz Ahmed (President Medalist & TOT NYKS Kashmir), who attended as Special Guests. Miss Bisma, a Physical Education Teacher, was also present to encourage the participants. The dignitaries distributed prizes among the winning teams and outstanding performers.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest Amarjit Singh emphasized the importance of sports in shaping youth and promoting national integration. He urged young athletes to actively participate in sports and contribute to India’s presence on the global sports map. He lauded NYK’s efforts in channelizing youth energy in a positive direction and fostering a culture of fitness, sportsmanship, and traditional village games.
The tournament successfully achieved its objective of providing a platform for rural youth to exhibit their talent while promoting sports culture, discipline, and physical fitness among the younger generation.
