Given the importance of public safety and the environment, the District Magistrate of Kupwara, Ayushi Sudan, IAS, has issued a total ban on the sale and use of firecrackers in the territorial limits of the District of Kupwara in connection with the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha. This decision comes after having realized that the sale and bursting of firecrackers at festivals, especially Eid, would cause extensive noise and air pollution, which would be grave threats to public health, safety, and property. In addition to causing disturbance, firecrackers cause hardship to the public at large. Therefore, in terms of the importance above and in exercise of powers under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS), the District Magistrate has considered it necessary to impose restrictions to secure public order and protect the environment.
