The newly posted Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Kupwara, Dr. Masarat iqbal wani has taken a firm stand against illegal private medical practice by government doctors during official duty hours.
Speaking to reporters, Dr. Masarat said the directive to detach all unauthorized attachments and prevent doctors from engaging in private practice during working hours has been in place for a long time but has not been enforced effectively.
“I have observed that private practice is still continuing openly. Some doctors have even kept agents at hospitals to refer patients. To curb this, I have issued clear directions that any doctor found indulging in private practice during duty hours will face strict action,” he said.
The move has been welcomed by the public, who say poor patients suffer the most when government healthcare services are compromised. Locals have expressed hope that the new CMO’s orders will be implemented strictly and not remain on paper.
Health officials in the district have also been directed to monitor activities in their respective areas and report any violations.
