Vice Chairperson, All India Sustainable Development Council (AISDC), Dr Navneet Kaur, participated in an Interactive Multi-Stakeholder Hearing organized as part of the UN General Assembly’s high-level meeting on the Appraisal of the Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons.
Representing India on this global platform, Dr Kaur, a noted social reformer and human rights advocate, highlighted the country’s evolving legal frameworks and strategic policy efforts that align with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) priorities. Her intervention focused on strengthening legislation, particularly advocating for the Trafficking in Persons (Prevention, Care, and Rehabilitation) Bill, aimed at improving victim protection and ensuring effective prosecution.
Emphasizing global cooperation, Dr Kaur called for stronger partnerships with UNODC and international stakeholders to bolster cross-border law enforcement, victim rehabilitation, and Intelligence sharing to counter trafficking networks. She also stressed the importance of sustainable, systemic reforms by addressing root causes such as poverty, gender inequality, and lack of education-key goals under AISDC’s broader development agenda.
“Together, let’s build a world free from exploitation and committed to justice and sustainability,” Dr Kaur urged in her address, underlining the urgency of combating trafficking through both policy and grassroots action.
As the founder Chairperson of NGO SUPPORT, Dr Kaur has championed issues like women’s empowerment, child rights, workplace harassment, and health equity, particularly in Jammu & Kashmir and other vulnerable regions of India. A rotarian and dynamic social leader, she continues to integrate human rights advocacy with sustainable development efforts in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Dr Kaur’s participation at the UN marks yet another milestone in India’s commitment to eliminating human trafficking through community resilience, legislative reforms and international solidarity. (Daily Excelsior)
