SSP Baramulla Gurinderpal Singh on Thursday said that while drug dealers are criminals who exploit society, addicts should be seen as victims in need of help and rehabilitation.

At skiing competition organized by the Range Police Headquarters under the Civic Action Program, SSP Baramulla said that J&K Police is committed to assist those struggling with addiction through de-addiction centers and various support programs.

Singh urged youth to seek help and make use of available resources to rebuild their lives.

Addressing concerns about rising drug addiction and suicide rates, the SSP said that J&K Police had taken strong action against drug peddlers, leading to a decline in cases compared to the previous year.

He described drug addicts as “victims” and reassured that J&K Police, along with the district administration, is committed to their rehabilitation.

“We have drug de-addiction centers and various support systems in place.

If anyone needs help, they can always approach us,” he said, adding that the police are always available to assist those in need.

Speaking on the importance of sports in youth development, SSP Baramulla said that several government programs exist to support talented persons. However, he pointed out that an “information gap” often prevents young people from accessing opportunities.

He urged students to stay informed about available platforms and government initiatives to develop their skills.

The SSP appreciated the support of the Youth Services and Sports Department, Gulmarg Development Authority, Gulmarg Municipal Corporation, and the district administration in organizing the event. He encouraged youngsters to utilize online resources to identify and nurture their talents.

“In our time, there were limited opportunities. Now, with digital access, youth must explore the right forums and government departments to shape their future,” he added.(KNS)
