SRINAGAR: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has given its consent for independent MP Engineer Rashid to take his oath as Member of Parliament on July 5.
This permission comes with certain conditions, one of which is that Rashid must not interact with media.
Rashid had requested interim bail or custody parole to facilitate his appearance in Parliament for the oath-taking ceremony.
The matter is now in the hands of the Patiala House Court, which is set to pass an order on this request on July 2.
Notably Er Rashid was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in 2019 on charges of terror-funding activities, becoming the first mainstream leader to be held under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
He won Lok Sabha Elections 2024 from Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla Parliamentary Constituency on June 4. He polled 454950 votes in north Kashmir’s Baramulla Parliamentary Constituency.(Agencies)
