National Conference (NC) president Dr. Farooq Abdullah Monday termed the Waqf Amendment Act as “against the Constitution” and welcomed the decision of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Speaker for not allowing a discussion on the matter, citing its pendency before the Supreme Court.
Speaking to reporters, Abdullah said the Speaker had exercised a wise judgment by disallowing debate on the Bill until the top court delivers its verdict.
“This Bill is against the Constitution.
The Speaker made a good decision of not allowing discussion on this as the matter is in the Supreme Court. We can talk about this after the Supreme Court’s decision,” he said.
He also took a swipe at the Opposition, stating that their approach lacks constructive engagement. “The Opposition here is only meant to do opposition; it is not a healthy criticism,” Abdullah remarked.(KNS)
