Former Minister and Ex-MLA Bandipora, Usman Majid, today issued a strong statement welcoming the overwhelmingly positive and united reaction of the people of Kashmir in the aftermath of the recent terror attack in Phalgam. He praised the people for displaying maturity, resilience, and an unyielding commitment to peace and humanity during a critical time. Calling it a “welcome step,” Majid emphasized that the response reflected the true spirit of Kashmir and a growing rejection of violence and misguidance.
“I am truly heartened to see how the people of Kashmir have reacted after the unfortunate incident in Phalgam,”Majid said. “This shows that the common man is now fully aware of who truly stands with them and who has exploited their emotions for personal and political gain over the past three decades.”
However, Majid did not hesitate from addressing the underlying issues that have plagued Kashmir for decades. He strongly criticized certain political figures and parties who, according to him, are now attempting to position themselves as the saviors of the Kashmiri people. “Where were these so-called messiahs over the past 30 years when we were striving to reveal the truth and guide our people towards a better future?” Where were you for the last 30 years when we were raising the voice of truth? Where was your so-called concern when the people of Kashmir were bleeding, suffering, and yearning for a real leadership?” Majid questioned.
He accused these long-standing political actors of misleading the populace, leading to prolonged suffering and stagnation in the region. “It’s because of their misguided leadership that Kashmir has endured immense hardships. Now, they claim to have been advocating for the very solutions we have been proposing for decades,” he added.
He pointed out that these very elements, who are now speaking the language of peace and prosperity, were the ones who misled the people, fed them false hopes, and dragged Kashmir into an abyss of violence, financial devastation, and political instability.
“It is because of your misleading narratives and selfish agendas that Kashmiris have suffered the most, be it financially, socially, or emotionally. You sowed the seeds of mistrust and disillusionment, and today you come forward pretending to be the well-wishers of the same people you betrayed,” he said.
Usman Majid further underlined that we keep advocating for honesty, development, and progress for decades, but our voices were often drowned out by the noise of those promoting separatism, false dreams, and violence.
“We kept telling people the truth, urging them to choose the path of peace, development, and dignity, but these so-called leaders kept misleading them. Today, when the damage is already done, when Kashmir is suffering at every level , economically, emotionally, socially, these people come out with hollow statements. It’s nothing but a mockery of the people’s pain,”Majid added.
He appealed to the people of Kashmir to stay alert and not fall prey once again to the hollow promises and double standards of those who have already cost the Valley generations of peace, prosperity, and progress, he concluded.”
