Govt. Girls Middle School Boniyar observed World Environment Day 2025 with great zeal and purpose, in collaboration with Forest Range Boniyar. This year’s celebration was themed “Beat the Plastic Pollution” and it saw a collective commitment from various stakeholders including students, teachers, forest officials, and community members.

The programme commenced with a significant plantation drive, which was formally inaugurated by the worthy Tehsildar Boniyar. A Deodara (Cedrus) sapling was planted by the Tehsildar to mark the beginning of the drive, followed by saplings planted by the Zonal Education Officer Boniyar, Parvez Ahmad Lone (Forester, Forest Range Boniyar), forest staff, Forest Protection Force personnel and the Head of Institution GMS Boniyar.

The event witnessed active participation from the Forest Range Boniyar team, including the Forest Protection Force, as well as the entire school fraternity. Students, teachers and officials all joined hands to contribute towards environmental preservation.

A key highlight of the celebration was the Anti Plastic Drive, which was formally launched by the HOI GMS Boniyar. The drive was marked by a spirited rally led by students holding placards and chanting slogans like “Beat the Plastic Pollution” and “Minimize Plastic Use.” Forest officials, school staff and students all took part in the rally that spread awareness.

This was followed by a Pledge Ceremony led by Mukhtar Ahmad Qureshi, School Cultural Co-ordinator, who read out the pledge taken unanimously by all present. The pledge emphasized environmental responsibility, the importance of stopping environmental harm and the duty to ensure a livable planet for future generations. The full text of the pledge read:

As a responsible citizen, I pledge to save and restore our beloved mother Earth, in the interest of humanity and help protect human lives. I shall try to stop anyone who acts against the environment and thus damages the tranquillity and balance of the Earth in all possible manner. I dedicate myself to ensure that the future generation receives a habitable planet.

In the concluding session, Mukhtar Ahmad Qureshi and Forester Parvez Ahmad Lone addressed the gathering. They emphasized that change begins at home and encouraged everyone to adopt eco friendly habits in their daily lives. Both speakers urged students and teachers to become Brand Ambassadors against Plastic, taking the message of plastic free living into their homes and communities.
