Government Girls Middle School Boniyar was an active participant in Rashtriya Avishkar Saptah 2024-25, which took up water conservation as a major environmental concern. The one week program, conducted between March 8 and March 12, 2025, made the students, teachers, and members of the community in tandem for a series of scientific and interactive exercises to promote sustainable water governance.
Hands On Activities for Water Conservation:
The activity began on March 8, 2025, with a pledge ceremony, where students, teachers, and community members pledged to practice water conservation measures in everyday life. This was followed by the installation of a groundwater recharge pit on the school campus. The activity enabled students to learn the science of groundwater recharge and see how small actions help solve global water shortages.
Local Water Conservation Awareness Campaign:
On 10th March 2025, a special Local Water Conservation Practices Awareness Campaign was organized. The session included a lecture by Mr. Mukhtar Ahmad Qureshi and Mr. Ghulam Nabi Sheikh (Ex Sarpanch), who provided useful information on sustainable water management. The interactive session invited students to ask questions and suggest innovative ideas for water conservation in their homes and localities. The session ended with students inspired to become young water conservation ambassadors.
Visit to Water Conservation Locations:
For exposing the students to real life experience, field trip was conducted on 11th March 2025 to Filtration Plant Boniyar At Kassidajan, where the students witnessed the water purifying process before supplying it to homes. Students also had interaction with the experts of conservation, who stressed the importance of conserving water bodies and utilizing sustainable irrigation methods.
Scientific Investigation of Water Penetration:
On 12 March 2025, students performed a Water Infiltration Rate Scientific Experiment at the Boniyar Water Testing Laboratory. With the Single Ring and Double Ring Infiltrometer Methods, they tested the way various soils absorb water and recharge groundwater. Guiding students by Mr. Mukhtar Ahmad Qureshi, the School Nodal Officer, who illustrated the function of soil permeability in water conservation. The experiment incorporated science, mathematics, and environmental studies to make learning functional and interesting.
Community Involvement and Future Pledges:
The seven day campaign was able to overcome the gap between theory and practice. The open participation by students, teachers, parents, and community members proved that community based conservation plays a key role.
The major learnings from the program were:
1. Knowledge generates action. The students gained the environmental relevance of water conservation.
2. Hands on learning works. Practical exercises such as the construction of recharge pits and infiltration experiments supported learning.
3. Involving communities adds impact Working with experts offered different viewpoints on water management.
4. Field trips instil responsibility Witnessing conservation in action created a sense of responsibility among the students.
In the future, GMS Boniyar hopes to keep organizing awareness programmes, introduce school based conservation activities such as rainwater harvesting, collaborate with environmental agencies, and motivate the students to come up with creative water conservation solutions.
At GMS Boniyar, we believe education is not just about acquiring knowledge but about creating responsible individuals who take action. With a strong foundation in scientific thinking and sustainability, we are confident that our students will champion water conservation efforts in their homes and communities, said Mr. Mukhtar Ahmad Qureshi, School Nodal Officer.
The Rashtriya Avishkar Saptah 2024 2025 at GMS Boniyar was not only an educational activity but a movement towards eco friendliness, showing that every small step counts towards ensuring water for the coming generations.
