The Jammu and Kashmir Health and Medical Education Department has suspended two doctors and imposed a ban on their private practice following an inquiry into an incident at Hakeem Sonuallah Hospital, Sopore.
According to Government Order No. 115 –JK (HME) of 2025, issued on February 6, 2025, the suspension was enforced to ensure a fair and impartial investigation while maintaining the integrity of the healthcare system.
The suspended doctors include Dr. Anjum Nazir, Consultant Gynaecologist, SDH Sopore, and Dr. Tariq Ahmad Dar, Medical Officer (Diploma in Anesthesia), DH Bandipora.
The government has also sealed the operation theater of Hakeem Sonuallah Hospital, Sopore, until the investigation is completed. Additionally, both doctors have been banned from engaging in private practice across Jammu and Kashmir.
The order, signed by Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, IAS, Secretary to the Government, has been circulated to various officials, including the Director of Health Services J&K, Chief Medical Officer Baramulla, and other concerned authorities for further action.
The exact details of the incident on February 3, 2025, at Hakeem Sonuallah Hospital are yet to be disclosed, but officials have assured a transparent inquiry.
