In a significant initiative to educate the public about the recently enacted criminal laws, the Handwara Police organized an Awareness Programme at Government Degree College Langate, Government Higher Secondary School Sanzipora, and BDO Office Tarathpora. The event aimed to familiarize students, employees from various departments, and the general public with the three new criminal laws: the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA).
The programme highlighted the key features, significant changes, and relevant information about the new laws, which replace the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), and the Indian Evidence Act. The initiative is part of the government’s efforts to modernize the legal framework and ensure that citizens are well-informed about their rights and responsibilities under the new laws.
Senior police officers and legal experts addressed the gatherings, explaining the implications of the new laws and their impact on the justice delivery system. They emphasized the importance of understanding these changes to ensure compliance and to foster a safer and more just society.
The event witnessed active participation from students, faculty members, government employees, and local residents, who expressed their appreciation for the initiative. The Handwara Police reiterated its commitment to conducting similar awareness programmes in the future to ensure widespread dissemination of legal knowledge.
