Amid tension between India and Pakistan, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Tariq Hameed Karra on Saturday expressed disappointment over the alleged administration’s refusal to allow him and his colleagues to visit Baramulla GMC to meet the injured in the recent shelling.

Karra said that he intended to visit Boniyar camp and Uri also but was not allowed to move, terming the refusal as an ‘unjustified blockade’.

In a post on social media platform X, Karra, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said, “Deeply troubled by the administration’s refusal to allow me & my colleagues to visit Baramulla GMC, Boniyar camp & Uri. This unjustified blockade undermines public trust. The administration must understand that our visit is solely humanitarian, not political.”

He further added that the decision to hinder access during a time of crisis was regrettable and called for “transparency and cooperation to ensure the community receives the support it deserves”.

Speaking to KNO, Karra on the purpose of the visit stated that it was meant to assess the situation at Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla, where several injured in recent shelling were being treated.

He said that he also intended to visit displaced people housed at Boniyar camp and the bereaved families in Uri, in addition to evaluating damage caused to properties in the affected areas.

“The denial during such a crisis period is not only autocratic but smacks as if the administration has something to hide,” Karra told KNO. “I had alerted the Baramulla district unit to prepare some relief material as reports were coming in about a shortage of basic human essentials.”

Karra said that his visit was motivated purely by humanitarian concerns. “Instead of me politicising the visit, it seems the administration is the one politicising it. The permission to go to Baramulla has been granted on a selective basis,” he said—(KNO)
