Illegal Mining Activity Halted in Shumriyal Lolab; Two Tractors Seized

Kupwara : Acting on credible information received on October 18, 2024, Police Station Sogam launched a swift operation against illegal mining activities in the Nallah Shumriyal, Lolab. It was reported that some tractor drivers were unlawfully extracting sand, gravel, and boulders from the nallah.

Two tractors loaded with illegally mined material were seized. The vehicles, bearing engine numbers NPL-6C7E0178 and NRL2THE0012, were being driven by Faisal Ahmad Mir S/O Mohammad Shafi Mir R/O Khumriyal, and Farooq Ahmad Bhat S/O Ab Ahad Bhat R/O Shumriyal, respectively.In this regard FIR No.45/2024 U/S 303(2) and 329(3) BNS has been registered in PS Sogam, and the investigation has been initiated.
The prompt action taken by Sogam Police has been appreciated by the local community, as it helps in preventing further damage to the natural resources of Nallah Shumriyal. The Jammu & Kashmir Police remain committed to taking stringent measures against illegal mining to protect the environment and natural resources.
