In a significant development, India has asserted its measured and non-escalatory approach following Pakistan’s attempted military escalation on the night of 07-08 May 2025. Pakistan’s attempts to target several military installations in Northern and Western India, including Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, and others, using drones and missiles, were swiftly neutralised by India’s Integrated Counter UAS Grid and Air Defence systems.
Speaking during a Press Briefing on Operation SINDOOR, India reaffirmed its commitment to a focused response while maintaining that Pakistani military establishments had not been targeted. India clarified that any further provocation, including attacks on military targets in Indian territory, would invite a proportionate and suitable response.
In retaliation, Indian Armed Forces targeted Air Defence Radars and systems at various locations in Pakistan, with reports indicating that a significant Air Defence system in Lahore was neutralised.
Pakistan has since intensified its unprovoked firing across the Line of Control (LoC), particularly in Jammu and Kashmir, using mortars and heavy artillery in sectors such as Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar, and Rajouri. The unprovoked firing resulted in the tragic loss of sixteen civilian lives, including three women and five children. India responded decisively to halt the mortar and artillery fire, protecting its civilian population.
Indian Armed Forces have reiterated their commitment to non-escalation, but warned that any further aggression from Pakistan will be met with a proportional response. The situation remains tense, and both sides continue to monitor developments closely, with India calling for respect of the ceasefire to maintain stability in the region. (KDC)
