In a landmark humanitarian gesture, the Indian Army, in partnership with Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS), Jaipur, organized a Mega Medical and Assistive Device Distribution Camp in Thanamandi, Rajouri District. The event exemplified the Army’s enduring commitment to inclusive outreach and upliftment of vulnerable communities under the umbrella of #OperationSadbhavna.
The one-day camp brought relief and renewed independence to over large number of specially-abled individuals and economically underprivileged residents from remote and mountainous areas. A wide range of assistive devices were distributed, including Wheelchair, Elbow Crutches & Blind Sticks, Hearing Aids, Orthopedic Support Devices
What set the camp apart was its patient-centric approach — each beneficiary underwent an individual medical and orthopedic evaluation conducted jointly by Army medical teams, civil doctors, and BMVSS technicians. This ensured that every device offered was customized to meet specific mobility and health needs.
“This wheelchair has changed my life. I feel seen, heard, and cared for,” said a young boy, his eyes filled with hope.
A local farmer, after receiving support for his visually impaired son, added:
“Hum door-daraaz se aaye, lekin yeh camp ne humein apnapan ka ehsaas diya.”
(“We came from afar, but this camp made us feel at home.”)
In addition to distributing mobility aids, the camp extended free health consultations, essential medicines, and awareness sessions on hygiene, nutrition, and traditional wellness practices, including AYUSH-based healthcare. The holistic medical assistance aimed to improve overall well-being, not just treat symptoms.
Many participants arrived after long journeys on foot or were carried by family through challenging terrain — a testimony to the community’s trust in the Indian Army and the life-changing nature of the services offered.
This initiative is part of the Army’s continued efforts to foster goodwill and partnership with civilians in sensitive and underserved regions. It highlighted the power of civil-military collaboration in bringing meaningful change at the grassroots level.
