India will become the hub of global cricket after the 2025 Champions Trophy as cricketers from all over the world will land in the country to participate in IPL 2025. The 18th edition of the T20 league will be played across different centres in the country. The league usually starts in March and ends in May.
IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal has confirmed the kick off date of IPL 2025 and said the season will start on March 21. He added that there are no significant changes in the rules in the upcoming season.
“See, the IPL season will start in March. The time is set for March 21. And the schedule will be released in a few days. No, there is no significant change in the rules. IPL is the most important cricket league in the world, where the players of the world come and play. And this tournament is organized with a very competitive spirit. And definitely, this time it will be even better,” he was quoted as saying by IANS.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will enter IPL 2025 as the defending champions. The Shreyas Iyer-led side defeated Pat Cummins’ Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the final to lift the title for the third time. They could square off in the opening game of IPL 2025.
While Cummins will continue to lead SRH, KKR will have a new captain. Iyer was back into the mega-auction and he joined Punjab Kings for Rs 26.75 crore. KKR haven’t confirmed their new captain yet.
MS Dhoni to play as uncapped player
MS Dhoni will play in IPL 2025 as an uncapped player. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) retained him for Rs 4 crore. He will play under Ruturaj Gaikwad’s leadership. Sandeep Sharma and Mohit Sharma will also participate in the season as uncapped players. Rajasthan Royals (RR) retained Sandeep before the mega-auction. Times Now
