Srinagar, February 9, 2025 – The Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Police have stepped up their efforts to prevent the misuse of SIM cards by terrorists and criminal elements in the region. In recent weeks, inspections have been carried out in multiple districts, including Srinagar, Ganderbal, Anantnag, Budgam, Pulwama, Shopian, Bandipora, Samba, and Kishtwar, to ensure strict adherence to Know Your Customer (KYC) norms and proper documentation by SIM card vendors. These inspections are aimed at preventing the unauthorized issuance of SIM cards and maintaining the security of communication networks.
Over the past year, more than 30 individuals have been arrested by the State Investigation Agency and district police units for procuring SIM cards under their names and subsequently handing them over to terrorists for communication purposes. The J&K Police are emphasizing the importance of safeguarding against the illegal use of these cards by terrorist and criminal groups.
The police have also appealed to citizens to be cautious with SIM cards issued in their names. Anyone found to be involved in the misuse of SIM cards linked to terrorist or organized criminal gangs will face strict legal consequences.
During investigations, it was revealed that many users had sold their phone numbers, along with their phones, to terror-linked individuals.
To assist in identifying such misuse, users can now check the status of their SIM cards online through the official portal [Sancharsaathi.gov.in](https://sancharsaathi.gov.in) and report any suspicious activity instantly.
The J&K Police have reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the public and will continue these inspections and enforcement actions to protect the integrity of communication networks in the region. (TRK News)
