Jammu and Kashmir Police Tuesday stated to have successfully restored Rs 62 lakhs to Mir Firasath Ali Khan, a complainant from Hyderabad, who fell victim to cheating and fraud in Jammu.

“The case, investigated by SDPO Bakshi Nagar, Dr Satish Bhardwaj under the supervision of SSP Jammu and SP South highlights the commitment of the Jammu Police to justice and victim-centric approach,” a Police spokesperson said.

The complainant, Mir Firasath Ali Khan, had approached Police Station Bahu Fort, alleging that certain individuals from Jammu were attempting to sell him fake diamonds in the guise of renowned Kashmir Blue Sapphires.

An FIR was registered, and the investigation revealed a larger conspiracy involving Mohammed Rayaz, son of Reham Ali, resident of Gurdan Bala Rajouri, at present Chinore Jammu and Mohammed Taj Khan, son of Haji Jumma Khan, resident of Potha Surankote Poonch, at present Meenia Mohalla Trikuta Nagar along with their associates, who had duped the complainant of Rs 3 Cr and were attempting to sell him fake Kashmir Blue Sapphires for Rs 25 Cr.

During the investigation, the Investigation Officer (IO) seized numerous fake Kashmir Sapphire necklaces from the accused’s possession and recovered Rs 62,00,000 from Mohammed Rayaz and his associates. The court subsequently released the seized money in favour of the complainant.

“The complainant expressed his gratitude to the Jammu Police, particularly SSP Jammu, Joginder Singh, SP South, Ajay Sharma, and SDPO Bakshi Nagar, Dr Satish Bhardwaj for their professionalism and dedication in recovering his hard-earned money,” spokesperson said.

Furthermore, the IO identified the property acquired by the accused using the proceeds of crime and has approached the court to proceed with attachment under Section 107 BNSS, a new clause introduced to make the criminal laws more victim-centric.

This section empowers the court to attach and forfeit the said property to restore the cheated amount to the complainant.

“The Jammu Police’s success in this case underscores its unwavering commitment to combating crime and ensuring justice for victims. The police department urges citizens to report any suspicious activities and appreciates the public’s support in its efforts to create a safer and more just society,” spokesperson said.
