Srinagar: Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari led Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party on Monday extended his unconditional support to jailed cleric Sarjan Ahmad Wagay, aka Sarjan Barkati in upcoming assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir.
Talking to media persons on the sidelines of a door-to-door campaign at Baghat Barzulla, Bukhari said, that he is extending his unconditional yet full support to Sarjan Barkati.
Barkati, known by his sobriquets ‘Pied Piper of Kashmir,’ and ‘Azaadi Chacha’, was on 28 August last year, Barkati arrested for orchestrating a fund-raising campaign and was accused of misusing the funds for radical activities in Kashmir. His wife is also languishing in jail for abetting him in the particular case.
Barkati shot to prominence for leading large gatherings and rallies during the 2016 unrest in Kashmir, with his unique slogans and speeches.
