Tightening the noose around narcotic smugglers and peddlers, the J&K police seized the contraband worth Rs 2 crore and arrested 62 people in five months in Udhampur district.
An official spokesperson said on Saturday that the Udhampur district police registered 44 cases against 62 accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) and Public Safety Acts while 16 vehicles used in drug trafficking were seized along with the closure of four pharmacy shops for violations related to schedule H1 drugs.
In a significant crackdown on financial assets, the spokesperson said 35 bank accounts of drug peddlers amounting to 16,70,703 were frozen.
A total of 2.07 crore worth of contraband was seized in the past five months and properties valued at 4.19 crore were attached in NDPS-related and cattle smuggling cases.
The spokesman said the police also successfully secured convictions against 27 drug peddlers in 20 cases from courts.
