The Jammu and Kashmir government on Monday reaffirmed its commitment to improve road connectivity in border areas, particularly in Karnah constituency, saying that over 31 projects are in the pipeline.

In a response to a query by MLA Javid Ahmad Mirchal, the government highlighted several ongoing and completed projects under NABARD, UT Capex, and PMGSY.

Under NABARD, 10 road projects have been approved at a cost of Rs 37.91 crore, with Rs 18.10 crore already spent. So far, six projects have been completed, while work is in progress on the remaining four projects, the government said.

Additionally, 1.70 km of road has been macadamized, and Water Bound Macadam (WBM) work on 3.99 km has been completed, it added.

Under the UT Capex budget, 15 schemes worth Rs 9.72 crore have been sanctioned for the constituency, with Rs 3.82 crore already utilized. Five schemes have been completed, and the remaining projects are in progress.

Further, all-weather connectivity in Karnah is being taken up under the PMGSY-IV program, which is in its finalization stage. The government has identified five habitations with populations of over 250, as per the 2011 Census, to be covered under this scheme, it added—(KNO)
