Persistently cold weather maintains its grip on Jammu and Kashmir, with Srinagar registering a bone-chilling minus 1.0°C on Saturday, according to officials.
The mercury in the summer capital of J&K reached its lowest point this season at minus 1.8°C on November 22. A meteorological department spokesperson told despite a drop from yesterday’s 0.9°C, the current temperature is 0.1°C above the seasonal norm for this time of the year in Srinagar.
Qazigund experienced a minimum temperature of minus 0.8°C, down from minus 0.2°C the previous night. This was noted as 0.9°C below the usual for this gateway town of Kashmir.
Pahalgam reported a low of minus 3.4°C compared to minus 3.3°C the night before, remaining 1.0°C below the norm for this renowned resort in south Kashmir.
In south Kashmir’s Kokernag, the minimum temperature was recorded at 1.5°C, surpassing the normal level by 0.6°C, as stated by the official.
Kupwara in north Kashmir experienced a low of minus 0.5°C, deviating 0.5°C below its typical temperature, according to the official.
Gulmarg, the internationally acclaimed skiing destination in north Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 1.0°C, indicating a deviation of 2.1°C below the norm.
Jammu, the winter capital of J&K, reported a minimum temperature of 9.3°C, marking a departure of 2.2°C below the seasonal average.
Looking ahead, the meteorological official forecasts partly to generally cloudy conditions in the next 24 hours. From November 27-28, the weather is expected to be generally cloudy. Additionally, from November 29-30, the forecast suggests generally cloudy conditions with a potential for light rain/snow at isolated higher reaches.
From December 1-5, the weather is projected to be partly to generally cloudy. Shallow to moderate fog is expected to persist until November 28 over various places in the Kashmir division.
