The event coordinators, addressing a press conference here, said this is a historic moment for Kashmir as for the first time, a national-level drug-free power lifting event is being organised here.

They said around 150 to 200 athletes from across India are expected to participate, adding that the championship aims to promote fitness and sports among youth and create awareness against drug abuse.

“Our motto is ‘Drug-Free, Champion Strong’. Any participant found using steroids or banned substances will be handed a lifetime ban,” he said.

The winners will receive world-class medals, specially made in South Korea, weighing 240 grams and 5 inches in size. “This is not just a competition, it is a platform to show the world that Kashmir is not only beautiful but also capable of hosting national and international sports events,” they said.

The entry categories, the organisers, said include teens (13–19 years); juniors (20–23 years); seniors (24–39 years); masters (40+ in different age brackets); physically challenged athletes.

The organisers of the event include Umar, Bhupender Sachdeva, Nasir Ahmad Ganaie and Sanjay Dabholkar.
