Today, a police party from Police Post Bazar established a checkpoint (naka) at Geerhatchi as part of routine surveillance and area domination measures. During the course of checking, one individual approaching from the Zangli side was observed behaving suspiciously. Upon noticing the naka party, the individual attempted to flee the spot; however, he was promptly and tactfully apprehended by the alert personnel.
On preliminary questioning, the individual identified himself as Irshad Ahmad Sofi, son of Ghulam Mohammad Sofi, resident of Sogam, Kupwara. A personal search was conducted in the presence of witnesses, leading to the recovery of a heroin-like substance from his possession.
In this regard, FIR No. 173/2025 under sections 8/21 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Kupwara, and further investigation has been taken up to ascertain the source and network behind the illegal substance.
