Acting swiftly under its ongoing drive against illegal liquor trade, Kupwara Police today seized 12 bottles of illicit alcohol (Old Monk brand) from the possession of an individual attempting to impersonate a police officer.
At approximately 1900 hours, a police party was conducting routine checks at Geer Hachi checkpoint in Kupwara. During the naka, a two-wheeler (Scooty Reg No. JK01W1732), driven by one Firdous Ahmad Wani, son of Nazir Ahmad Wani, resident of Panzgam, Kralpora, Kupwara, was intercepted while coming from Zangli towards Kupwara.
During the search, 12 bottles of alcohol were recovered from the vehicle. Upon being questioned, the individual initially tried to mislead the naka party by falsely identifying himself as a police official named “Zakir.” However, upon further sustained interrogation, his real identity was established, and it was revealed that he was falsely impersonating as a member of the police to facilitate and cover up his illegal activities.
