Anuradha Paswan, known as the ‘looteri dulhan’ or ‘looting bride’, has been arrested for orchestrating a series of elaborate marriage scams. She is accused of duping at least 25 men.
Paswan would assume new identities in different cities, posing as an ideal bride to lure her victims into fake marriages. She had reportedly done 25 such fraud marriages and conducted several thefts of money and jewelry from the husband’s house after fraud marriage and ran away.
The scam was uncovered after Vishnu Sharma, a resident of Sawai Madhopur, filed a complaint on May 3. Sharma reported that he had paid ₹2 lakh to two marriage agents, Sunita and Pappu Meena, who assured him they would find him a suitable bride. He was introduced to Anuradha, who was presented as the perfect match. The marriage took place on April 20 at a local court. However, less than two weeks later, on May 2, Anuradha vanished — taking off with valuables from the home.
However, the game ended when the Sawai Madhopur Police flipped the script. In a clever operation, officers set up a fake marriage scenario to trap Paswan. Posing as a prospective groom, they led her into the trap — successfully arresting her before she could escape again.
Police have identified several other suspects involved in the operation, all hailing from various neighborhoods in Bhopal.
