Srinagar experienced its most frigid night this winter as temperatures plunged to minus 4.6°C on Saturday.
A meteorological department representative said that there was a 2.2 °C decrease in mercury compared to minus 2.6°C the previous night. The temperature in Srinagar was 4.0°C below the seasonal average.
In Qazigund, the mercury dropped to a minimum of minus 2.8°C, down from minus 2.4°C the previous night, marking a 2.0°C deviation from the town’s typical winter temperature.
Pahalgam witnessed a low of minus 5.0°C, a slight drop from the previous night’s minus 4.8°C, registering a 1.8°C below-normal temperature for this renowned resort in south Kashmir.
Kokernag, situated in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum of minus 2.3°C, a decrease from the previous night’s minus 2.0°C, with the temperature below the average by 1.6°C.
In north Kashmir’s Kupwara town, the temperature dropped to minus 3.0°C, down from minus 2.5°C the previous night, indicating a 1.2°C departure from the typical winter temperature.
Gulmarg, the world-famous skiing resort in north Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 4.3°C, compared to minus 3.0°C the previous night, with the temperature 0.5°C below the average.
Jammu experienced a minimum temperature of 8.1°C, a decrease from 8.6°C the previous night, with the temperature below the seasonal norm by 1.9°C for the winter capital of J&K.
The Meteorological Department has forecast predominantly dry weather in J&K until December 10. On December 11, the weather is expected to be generally cloudy. From December 12-15, there is a likelihood of generally cloudy conditions with light rain/snow at isolated higher reaches, as per the MeT predictions. (TRK News)
