Nongthombam Biren Singh has tendered his resignation as Chief Minister of Manipur. In his resignation letter, Singh expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the people of Manipur and acknowledged the Central government’s support in key developmental and security initiatives.
“It has been an honor to serve the people of Manipur thus far,” Singh stated, while urging the Centre to continue its efforts to safeguard the state’s interests.
Biren specifically highlighted the need for maintaining of Manipur’s territorial integrity, emphasizing its rich civilizational history.
He also urged for crack down on border infiltration and formulate policies for deporting illegal immigrants and sustain the fight against drugs and narco-terrorism in the region.
While demanding for strengthening the Free Movement Regime (FMR) with stringent biometric measures to regulate cross-border movement, Biren also highlighted the expedition of border infrastructure projects to enhance security and connectivity.
Biren’s resignation comes amid ongoing challenges in Manipur, including ethnic tensions and security concerns along the state’s borders.
