A one-day MSME sponsored awareness programme focusing on entrepreneurship opportunities in agriculture and allied sectors for rural youth, specifically targeting sheep breeders, was successfully organized on 23rd January 2025 by Division of Agricultural Extension & Communication, Faculty of Agriculture, SKUAST-K at Panchayat Office Pattan. The event brought together experts from diverse fields to educate and inspire participants to explore innovative ways to enhance livelihoods through sustainable practices. The programme commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr. Quadri Javid Ahmad, training organizer, who emphasized the importance of entrepreneurship in empowering rural communities. Prof. Raihana Habib Kanth, Dean Faculty of Agriculture, shared words of wisdom on the potential of sheep breeding as a profitable income-generating sector. She emphasized the need for adopting modern practices and entrepreneurial approaches to maximize benefits. Dr. Showkat Ahmad, District Sheep Husbandry Officer Baramulla captivated the audience with his field experiences, sharing practical tips and success stories that inspired participants to consider innovative methods in sheep breeding. Dr. Muneer Ahmad, Ph.D Pharmacology (VAS) provided an informative overview of various government schemes and initiatives aimed at supporting livestock farmers. He encouraged participants to take advantage of these schemes to improve their livelihoods. Dr. Waqar Ahmad delivered a comprehensive lecture on winter management of livestock, equipping the attendees with essential strategies to ensure the well-being of their animals during harsh winters. Prof. M.H.Chesti addressed the vital topic of manure management, shedding light on efficient ways to utilize manure as a resource for both environmental sustainability and economic benefit. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Shafat Kubravi, expressing gratitude to the participants, speakers, and organizers for their contributions to the event’s success. This initiative provided rural youth with valuable knowledge and resources, inspiring them to explore entrepreneurship opportunities in agriculture and allied sectors. It also reaffirmed the commitment of stakeholders toward empowering rural communities for a sustainable future. As a gesture of support, free medicines were distributed to participants to aid in the health and well-being of their livestock.
