The 15th National Voters Day was today celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm across various locations in district Kupwara. The theme for this year, “Nothing Like Voting, I Vote for Sure,” resonated throughout the events, emphasizing the importance of electoral participation.
The main function was held at the Boys Higher Secondary School Kupwara, where Deputy Commissioner (DC), Kupwara, Ms. Ayushi Sudan presided over the event. Senior officials, including Additional Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Mohd Rouf Rehman; Dy. DEO, CEO, ROs of AC Kupwara & AC Trehgam and other senior officers, besides, electoral staff, large number of students and newly registered voters were present on the occasion.
The function was started with playing of National Anthem. The video message of from the Chief Election Commissioner of India, Rajiv Kumar on the eve of 15th National Voters’ Day was also presented before the audience.
On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner administered the Voters’ Pledge to the participants including officers and students which read, “We, the citizens of India, having abiding faith in democracy, hereby pledge to uphold the democratic traditions of our country and the dignity of free, fair and peaceful elections, and to vote in every election fearlessly and without being influenced by considerations of religion, race, caste, community, language or any inducement”.
In her address, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the significance of voting in a democracy and the role of citizens in strengthening the democratic fabric of the nation. She encouraged the youth, particularly first-time voters, to actively participate in the electoral process. The DC highlighted the efforts of the District Administration for ensuring successful conduct of the recent elections of Lok Sabha and Assembly polls in the district and expressed gratitude towards all stakeholders including officers and employees of different departments for fair and transparent conduct of the elections.
ADC Kupwara also spoke and put special emphasis on the importance of National Voters’ Day. He highlighted the importance of voting in the background of the Constitution of India.
Various other speakers including Dy. DEO, ACR, CEO and first time voters also spoke and emphasized the importance of NVD and voting process in the democracy.
Cultural variety programmes were also presented by the students of different schools.
Events under National Voters Day were also held in sub divisions, tehsils, Block and panchayat levels to uphold democratic values and participate responsibly in the electoral process.
, SDM Karnah, Zaffar Ahmad Lone presided over a function held at Mini Secretariat Tangdar to mark the celebration of the National Voters’ Day.
Similarly, SDM Sogam, Javid Masoodi also presided over a function at SDM Office Sogam to commemorate the National Voters Day.
National Voters Day was also observed at Town Hall Handwara, where Tehsildar Handwara, Zeeshan Khan presided over the function.
National Voters Day was also observed in all Government offices and Schools of district Kupwara where senior officers administered the Voters’ Pledge to their staff and importance of NVD was highlighted.
