The Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday said that there are no plans for the four-laning of the Sopore-Kupwara road via Sangrama, however, it said that the partial upgradation is underway.
Responding to a query by legislator Mir Mohammad Fayaz, the Minister I/C, Public Works (R&B) Department stated that no Detailed Project Report (DPR) for four-laning has been prepared for this stretch, which is maintained by the PWD.
However, the department informed that the road from Kulangam to Kupwara, managed by BEACON under NH701, is currently undergoing an upgrade to a two-lane road with paved shoulder specifications.
Furthermore, during the financial year 2024-25, a stretch of 11.50 kilometers from Kulangam to Zandri Mode has been blacktopped under the Cities & Towns Programme.
For the remaining 16.20 kilometers, a DPR has been framed for the Upgradation of Sangrama Sopore Sagipora road with an estimated cost of Rs 1811.54 lakh. The project is awaiting sanction under NABARD’s RIDF XXX scheme.
Meanwhile, the government assured that the work will proceed upon approval during the current financial year—(KNO)
