As India celebrates its 75th Republic Day on the 26th of January, the significance of this day goes beyond the grandeur of parades and patriotic fervor. This year, the occasion holds special meaning as positive changes are underway in the region of Kashmir, signaling a new era of hope and progress. The reorganization of Jammu and Kashmir into two separate union territories on August 5, 2019, marked a historic moment in the nation’s history. The move aimed at fostering development, peace, and inclusivity in the region. The abrogation of 370 has facilitated development in Jammu and Kashmir. Over the past four years, there has been noticeable progress in infrastructure and a relative sense of peace on the ground. After the constitutional changes and reorganization of the erstwhile State of Jammu-Kashmir, the Union territories of Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh have been fully integrated into the mainstream of the nation. As a result, all the rights enshrined in the Constitution of India and benefits of all the Central Laws that were being enjoyed by other citizens of the country are now available to the people of Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh. In the subsequent years, concerted efforts have been made to bring about positive changes in Kashmir, fostering a sense of unity and prosperity.
One of the key aspects of the positive change in Kashmir is the emphasis on development and economic growth. Various infrastructure projects have been initiated to boost connectivity, provide employment opportunities, and enhance the overall quality of life for the people in the region. In almost three years since the Jammu and Kashmir government announced a new industrial policy in January 2021, the Union Territory has received proposals worth Rs 84,544 crore in as many as 42 industrial sectors. A record of 2.12 crore tourists visited J&K last year that included 55,000 foreign tourists showing a 350 percent increase.
